On a small blue planet...

moving predictably, for the most part, on an invisible thread, wandering unnoticed in a miasmatic patch halfway between almost nothing and certainly nothing, like everything else in the Milky Way, the resident minds are sometimes taken by a private conception of God;

they wonder in awe,

conjuring images, words, beliefs, to shape the vision, that in the story they may begin to understand. The questions surpass number. Where does it begin? Where will it end? if it ends at all?

I move from moment to illusive moment, from place to common place, tasting colors with keen eyes. Vaporous, musty dust in cigarette waltz dances, like Nereid courting a mate in this watery, invisible sea beneath the stars, from where I look up as a mere mote of dust gazing upon the ultimate vastness

...and I stagger just to imagine.
